Welcome to CourtKicks

My name is Mason Mejia, and I am a senior at Loyola High School in Los Angeles. CourtKicks grew out of my desire to share my love of basketball and give back to communities in the Philippines. During my freshman year, I partnered with Project Joy and FilNation to collect shoes and basketballs for children in need ahead of a trip to Manila for a basketball tournament.

Just one day before my flight, I broke my thumb playing lacrosse. I was devastated that I couldn’t compete, but I remained determined to make the trip meaningful. I shifted my focus toward helping others, discovering that my impact could extend beyond playing on the court. That experience continues to inspire my work with CourtKicks: bringing people together through basketball and helping more children access the game.

CourtKicks Was Born

While I was there, I attended a PBA game in Antipolo, where I met the commissioner and the mayor. They suggested I visit a local gym the following day to meet kids who didn’t have shoes or basketballs. Along with my teammate, we organized our first giving event there. A few days later, I collaborated with FilNation to host a Tenement event, where we provided shoes and basketballs to even more kids in need.

The fulfillment I felt from giving to those in need was incredible, and it inspired me and my mom to turn this into an ongoing initiative. Together, we started a charity, and that’s how CourtKicks was born.

Tenement Outreach

In the Philippines, basketball is more than just a sports-it’s a way of life. But for many children in Tenement community, even the basics, like basketball shoes, socks, and water bottles, are out of reach. These kids play barefoot on concrete courts, driven by their love for the game but lacking the essentials to play safely and comfortably.
